Malaka, today Malaga, was founded by the Phoenicians in the eighth century BC, its inhabitants have always lived facing the Mediterranean Sea and love it deeply. Many fishermen still draw on the prow of their jábegas (typical Malaga boats) an eye, continuing the tradition of the Phoenician sailors, who painted it on their boats to protect themselves from bad luck. Pablo Picasso, who was born in Malaga, was very impressed by this simple representation as a child. It is very interesting to discover how he used its form in some of the portraits and works that are in the wonderful collection of the Picasso Museum, located in the Buenavista Palace, in the historic center of the city. The artist and his heirs wanted their city to have part of his artistic legacy (the collection covers eight decades of Pablo Picasso's work)
